The Dublin Scioto High School Band finished 14th out of 27 ensembles at the Bands of America Central Ohio Regional Championship on Saturday, Sept. 26.
The band performed its show, "The Happiness Conspiracy," at Fortress Obetz in Obetz, Ohio. Bands from five states competed at the regional. The top 12 advanced to finals. Dublin Scioto fell just short.
Band director Andy Doherty called the result "a massive accomplishment" in the program's Tuesday Sheet newsletter, praising students for their preparation. Drum majors Ellen Griffith and Selena Ramos led the ensemble on the field.
The contest was originally set for Historic Crew Stadium but moved to Fortress Obetz after the original venue became unavailable, according to the BOA event page.
Fund Drive needs volunteers
Doherty's newsletter carried a blunter message alongside the congratulations: the band's annual Fund Drive, scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 30, had only half the volunteers it needs. Doherty urged families and community members to sign up immediately.
The Fund Drive is a key fundraiser for the program. Specific volunteer roles and shift details were not listed in the newsletter.
Busy October ahead
Doherty wrote that the band's Oct. 24 marching contest will proceed as originally scheduled after a possible conflict was resolved. He thanked families for their patience while the program worked through options.
The band also has a packed early-October slate:
- Friday, Oct. 2: Home football game vs. St. Charles, 7 p.m. kickoff. The band is also seeking concessions volunteers.
- Saturday, Oct. 3: Buckeye Invitational at Ohio Stadium, with a 5:15 p.m. performance and awards at 9:30 p.m.
- Thursday, Oct. 15: Annual Dublin Band Showcase at Dublin Scioto High School. Doherty noted the event had not yet appeared on the school calendar.
The Oct. 24 contest location has not been announced.
