OhioHealth is building a $255 million expansion of Dublin Methodist Hospital, the largest investment at the facility since it opened in 2008 and one of three major medical projects now shaping the city's growth.
The health system held a groundbreaking ceremony Feb. 26 for a new patient tower on the hospital's north side, according to an OhioHealth news release. The project will add two floors, bringing Dublin Methodist from four stories to six and expanding the facility to 185,700 square feet, including 58,150 square feet of renovated space on the first and second floors.
Dublin Methodist currently operates with 92 acute care beds. Completion is expected in 2029.
Cherie Smith, president of OhioHealth Dublin Methodist and Grady Memorial Hospital, said the project responds to a fast-growing population, particularly residents 65 and older who need more intensive care.
"We were boarding or holding patients in the [emergency department] who actually needed to be inpatients," Smith told Dublin's planning and zoning commission in October 2025, as reported by NBC4. "We just knew we didn't have the capacity for the continued population growth."
The expansion will increase critical care capacity, add heart, vascular and surgery services, and support the hospital's Level III Trauma Program. A Dublin city manager report projected 200 permanent clinical jobs and hundreds of construction positions.
Dublin Mayor Chris Amorose Groomes attended the Feb. 26 groundbreaking alongside representatives from construction firm Whiting-Turner, Design Group and the hospital's development board.
Dublin Methodist is not the only medical project under way.
Mount Carmel Dublin Hospital opened in April 2025 on a 35-acre campus offering cardiology, neurology, orthopedics, primary care and surgical services, according to Catholic Times. Parent company Trinity Health called it a "hospital of the future" in a recent investor presentation.
Separately, Dublin City Council on July 1 approved an amended economic development agreement with Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center. The deal allows Ohio State to buy 16.3 acres of city-owned land along University Boulevard for about $2.93 million, according to a city announcement. Ohio State committed to building a specialized medical facility of at least 150,000 square feet on the site.
The new parcel sits adjacent to Ohio State's existing Outpatient Care Dublin campus at 6700 University Blvd. John J. Warner, CEO of Ohio State Wexner Medical Center, said the facility handles nearly 2,000 patient encounters each day and averages more than 1,000 new patients per month.
The agreement builds on a 2019 deal that led to the 272,000-square-foot outpatient facility. Ohio State must begin Phase II construction by Dec. 31, 2031, and holds a right of first offer on an additional parcel through Dec. 31, 2028.
