A Roaring Twenties-themed casino night on Sept. 17 will give Dublin-area residents a chance to play blackjack, bid on silent-auction packages and help fund meals, transportation and in-home care for older adults across Delaware County.
SourcePoint Speakeasy, the nonprofit's annual fall fundraiser, starts at 5:30 p.m. at Bridgewater Banquet Center, 10561 Sawmill Road in Powell. Tickets cost $100 per person and include two drink tickets and casino cash for blackjack, craps, poker and roulette tables, according to the Delaware Gazette.
Prohibition-era attire is encouraged but not required. The evening also features hors d'oeuvres, music and lounge spaces.
"Every ticket purchased, auction bid placed, and donation made helps strengthen our community," board president Pamela Foster said in an Aug. 16 announcement.
A silent auction will run online through ReadySetAuction, meaning bidders who cannot attend in person can still participate. Interested bidders must create a free ReadySetAuction account.
Why it matters locally
SourcePoint, founded in 1992, serves adults 55 and older across all of Delaware County, including portions of Dublin within county lines. Its programs include Meals on Wheels, medical transportation, personal care, light housekeeping, caregiver support and Medicare counseling, according to the organization's website.
The need is growing. Delaware County's population aged 65 and older doubled between 2010 and 2022, according to a Looking Forward profile of the organization. Daily visits to SourcePoint's facility on Cheshire Road in Delaware have climbed 67% since 2016, according to a January announcement about the nonprofit purchasing its building. The in-home care program currently assists about 1,600 older adults.
CEO Fara Waugh, who joined SourcePoint in 1995 as its first social worker, said during a May 5 Older Americans Month proclamation that "older adults are the backbone of our community" and called them leaders, volunteers, caregivers and mentors who "continue to give their time, wisdom, and energy to make Delaware County stronger."
Roughly 75% to 80% of SourcePoint's budget comes from a local property tax levy, with the rest drawn from federal and state funds, grants, donations and service fees. More than 60,000 volunteer hours support its programs each year.
