Dublin Coffman placed six wrestlers on Sports Illustrated's 2026-27 national preseason rankings, released Aug. 7, signaling the Shamrocks are building one of the deepest high school wrestling programs in the country.

Senior Blaze Van Gundy leads the group at No. 5 nationally in the 132-pound weight class. His teammate, junior Tommy Wurster, sits one spot behind him at No. 6 at the same weight. That's two Coffman wrestlers in the top six at 132 pounds nationally.

Incoming freshman Rylen Wax, who won the U17 World Championship in Greco-Roman wrestling in Baku, Azerbaijan, on July 27, checks in at No. 8 at 106 pounds. Junior Loc Webber earned the No. 15 spot at 120 pounds, senior Eli Esguerra landed at No. 25, and junior Oliver Lester received an honorable mention at 120 pounds.

The rankings come on the heels of Coffman's best-ever finish in the Division I state duals tournament. The Shamrocks were state runner-up in February, falling to perennial power Lakewood St. Edward 39-29 in the final at Marysville. Both Van Gundy and Lester competed at the OHSAA Division I state individual tournament in March at Value City Arena in Columbus, where Van Gundy posted a 16-0 technical fall and Lester pinned his opponent in 1:40, according to OHSAA tournament results.

Head coach Chance Van Gundy, Blaze's father, enters his 15th season leading the program. He told the Columbus Dispatch on Aug. 6 that Wax has "one of the best work ethics I've ever seen at his age," as we reported in our profile of the incoming world champion.

The six ranked wrestlers span three weight classes and four class years. Coffman has nationally ranked seniors, juniors and a freshman all contributing to the same roster.

These are Version 1 rankings, according to Sports Illustrated, compiled after the Class of 2026 graduated. SI plans to release an updated version later in August once wrestlers settle into their expected weight classes, so individual spots could shift.

Coffman's season opens this winter. Wax could face an early test at the Ironman Tournament in December, where a potential rematch with Puerto Rico's Nelson Villafane looms after Villafane beat him 7-1 in the U17 freestyle final.
