Franklin County Public Health will spray for mosquitoes in Dublin's north zone Aug. 17, starting around 9 p.m.

The city announced the spraying Aug. 14. FCPH administers Dublin's mosquito management program, which includes trapping mosquitoes and testing them for West Nile virus. Spraying is triggered when trap data shows an abnormally high mosquito count in an area or when mosquitoes test positive for the virus.

This is the third time this summer.

FCPH sprayed the north zone June 22 after trapped mosquitoes tested positive for West Nile virus, then hit both the north and central zones Aug. 3. The specific trigger for Monday's spraying has not been disclosed.

Dublin is divided into spray zones whose boundaries follow larger secondary roads. Residents can check whether their neighborhood falls within the north zone on FCPH's interactive spray map.

What residents should do

FCPH's standing guidance says staying indoors during spraying is optional but lists these precautions:

  • Bring pet food and water bowls inside; cover ornamental fishponds.
  • Bring laundry in before spraying begins.
  • Cover or rinse outdoor furniture, toys and play equipment with water afterward.
  • Wash any exposed fruits or vegetables under running water before eating.
  • If skin contacts the pesticide, wash with soap and water.

Do not approach spray trucks while they are operating. If you're walking and a truck approaches, make yourself visible and walk in the direction the truck is heading; drivers are trained to shut off the spray. Drivers in cars should not follow a spray truck but wait for it to pass or find an alternate route.

As of September 2025, FCPH was using Permanone 30-30, a low-odor insecticide targeting adult mosquitoes, midges and black flies, according to Columbus Dispatch reporting on the agency's program. The product for Monday's spray has not been separately confirmed.
