Students returning to Dublin City Schools on Aug. 20 will find new roofs, running tracks, upgraded HVAC systems and an expanded cafeteria waiting for them, the result of a summer construction push that touched 18 of the district's 25 buildings.
All of it was funded through bonds and permanent improvement funds approved by Dublin taxpayers.
The work ranged from a full two-story addition at Dublin Scioto High School to asphalt repairs at the district's preschool, Chief Operating Officer Jeff Stark said in a district announcement published Aug. 14. "These projects reflect our Journey 2030 strategic plan, specifically the Master Facility Planning focus area, which prioritizes maintenance, learning spaces, and safety," Stark said.
Journey 2030, adopted in March 2023, is the district's first strategic plan in several decades and guides decisions on maintenance, learning spaces and safety across all 25 buildings.
High schools
The largest single project was Scioto's expansion, completed in early August. The two-story addition on the north side of the building adds 27 classrooms and capacity for 675 students, as the Ledger reported Aug. 10. Beyond that addition, Scioto also gained a cafeteria expansion, new HVAC and fire alarm systems, an updated elevator and scoreboard, and repaired asphalt.
Dublin Coffman received a new roof, HVAC system, fire alarm system, elevator and scoreboard. Dublin Jerome's upgrades focused on athletics: a new weight room, hitting facility and updated scoreboard.
Emerald Campus got elevator upgrades and asphalt repairs.
Middle schools
Karrer Middle School and Grizzell Middle School both have brand-new running tracks. Grizzell also received a new roof and HVAC system. Davis Middle School got a new fire alarm system and asphalt repairs, while Sells Middle School received asphalt work.
Elementary schools and preschool
Three elementaries received new roofs: Thomas, Wyandot and Wright. Wright also got an updated HVAC system, as did Riverside and Glacier Ridge. Bailey, Hopewell and Abraham Depp elementaries received fresh asphalt. Scottish Corners got a revamped elevator. Dublin City Schools Preschool also received new asphalt.
The first day of school for all K-12 students is Aug. 20.
