Dublin's pedestrian bridge will glow purple on the evening of Friday, Sept. 25, as local businesses rally behind the Alzheimer's Association.

The Dublin Chamber of Commerce announced Paint Dublin Purple Night, inviting Bridge Park and Dublin-area businesses to raise funds and awareness for Alzheimer's disease and other forms of dementia. The event leads into the Walk to End Alzheimer's Columbus on Sunday, Oct. 11, which organizers expect to draw about 4,000 participants and nearly 400 teams.

The Dublin Link pedestrian bridge will be illuminated in purple that evening as the centerpiece of the effort.

How businesses can take part

Businesses can pick whatever level of involvement fits them. The chamber listed several options:

  • Create a purple-themed food or drink special
  • Donate a percentage of sales or a set amount from a featured item
  • Let customers round up purchases or donate at checkout
  • Display a QR code for Walk donations or registration
  • Form a Walk team and invite employees and customers to join
  • Encourage employees to wear purple or decorate the storefront

No business is expected to do all of those things.

The Alzheimer's Association will supply participating businesses with QR codes, promotional materials and social media graphics. The association's Central Ohio Chapter, based in Delaware, Ohio, coordinates the Walk and local outreach.

How to sign up

Macie Bradley, who coordinates the Walk to End Alzheimer's Columbus for the Alzheimer's Association, is the point of contact for businesses that want to participate. She can be reached at [email protected].

Residents who want to walk, donate or form a team can register at act.alz.org/columbusohio.

The chamber described the night as a chance for businesses to raise awareness and connect community members with Alzheimer's Association resources ahead of the Oct. 11 Walk.
