Indian Run Elementary School students are writing thank-you cards for veterans at a new Service in Action nook inside the Columbus Metropolitan Library's Dublin branch. The nook opened Thursday, Oct. 1.

The National Veterans Memorial and Museum partnered with the library system to create the dedicated space at 75 S. High St. in Dublin. The nook lets visitors of all ages explore veteran stories, browse books about service and participate in hands-on activities, NBC4 reported. Anyone can stop in and write a thank-you letter.

Indian Run Elementary, a K-5 school in the Dublin City School District with 476 students, is using materials the museum provided for the card-writing project. The cards will go to veterans in treatment at a health and rehabilitation center whose name has not been publicly identified.

The museum, based at 300 W. Broad St. in Columbus, launched the Service in Action Initiative in 2025 to encourage youth and families to turn veterans' stories into community service, according to the museum's website.

The Dublin nook is the latest in a series the museum has opened at Columbus Metropolitan Library branches. Prior locations include the Whitehall branch, which opened in January, and the Martin Luther King branch.

In a January 2026 press release announcing the Whitehall nook, Dr. Frederic Bertley, the museum's CEO, said the partnership "extends our mission even further into the community and will inspire young people to explore how they can serve others … through service to their school, their church, their community, or their country."

The Nationwide Foundation sponsors the nook program. Each nook features rotating projects and a Step Up to Service Challenge Tracker that helps visitors plan their own community service efforts.

In September, the museum also partnered with Columbus City Council on citywide service activities marking the 25th anniversary of 9/11, including a volunteer event at the museum where more than 300 people packed over 113,000 meals for the Mid-Ohio Food Collective.

Families interested in the museum's education programs can contact Mason Farr, the museum's education and outreach manager, at 614-427-1126.
