A Dublin man indicted on 10 charges for allegedly setting fires at homes under construction is scheduled for a change-of-plea hearing Oct. 8 in Union County Common Pleas Court.

Affan Mohammed Taj, 21, faces three counts each of arson and vandalism, two counts of possessing criminal tools, and one count each of breaking and entering and criminal damaging. The charges stem from fires at homes on Lennon Lane and Saddle Tank Drive in the Plain City area and on Drummore Court in Dublin.

Taj's attorney, William Nesbitt, told the court at a pretrial hearing Sept. 12 that the case had been resolved and requested the plea hearing, Marysville Matters reported. Prosecutors did not object.

No plea terms have been filed publicly.

The Dublin fire occurred March 6 at a home in the 7100 block of Drummore Court, according to 10TV. A witness reported seeing a black Honda sedan leaving the scene, where the deck was on fire. The words "FREE ISRAEL" were spray-painted on a home under construction across the street, court records show.

All three targeted homes were owned by M/I Homes, 10TV reported.

Prosecutors allege surveillance video, license-plate readers and cellphone location data connected Taj to the fires. A bill of particulars states investigators found a video on Taj's phone showing him setting fire to the Saddle Tank Drive home, which was destroyed. Prosecutors also allege Taj admitted setting the fires.

Pleasant Valley Fire District Chief Bryan Adams told ABC6/WSYX in March, when Taj was first charged, "You couldn't deny the similarities between the cases."

Taj was initially held on a $750,000 bond. That amount was later reduced to $250,000, a personal-appearance bond co-signed by his parents. He remains under house arrest with electronic monitoring.

No sentencing date has been set.
