A crash shut down West Broad Street in both directions between Cole Road and Murnan Road on Aug. 16, forcing drivers to find alternate routes for about 85 minutes during the evening.
The Franklin County Sheriff's Office first reported on X at approximately 5:31 p.m. that the eastbound lane was closed. By 5:57 p.m., the agency posted an update announcing that West Broad was fully closed in both directions due to the crash and asking drivers to use an alternate route.
The road reopened at 6:56 p.m., according to a Sheriff's Office Facebook post. The agency urged drivers to use caution because high water remained a hazard in the area. The Sheriff's Office posted four photos alongside its reopening announcement on X showing conditions on West Broad Street at the time.
The Sheriff's Office did not release details about the number of vehicles involved, whether anyone was injured or what caused the crash. The agency has jurisdiction over the West Broad Street corridor in this Dublin-area stretch.
High water keeps hitting Dublin-area roads
The closure is the latest weather-related road hazard to affect the Dublin area this month. On Aug. 10, the Sheriff's Office warned of high water on Riverside Drive and Lane Road after heavy rain, with a flood watch in effect through the following morning.
The next day, Aug. 11, severe storms swept through the Columbus region, knocking out power to more than 166,000 customers statewide. Columbus officials sent local government workers home early ahead of those storms.
Whether wet conditions contributed to Sunday's crash on West Broad Street is unknown. The Sheriff's Office has not indicated whether additional closures are expected.
Drivers who encounter standing water on any roadway should turn around rather than attempt to drive through. The Franklin County Sheriff's Office non-emergency line is 614-525-3333. Call 911 for emergencies.
