Nick Friedman wore No. 59 for the Dublin Coffman Shamrocks. Now he's back.
The program announced on X Aug. 19 that Friedman, a 2009 Coffman graduate and two-time football letterman, has rejoined the coaching staff as a freshman coach under head coach Nick McVay. The announcement landed one day before Dublin City Schools' first day of classes on Aug. 20, and two days before the Rocks open their 2026 season.
Friedman's coaching career spans 16 years, and Coffman is where it started. He began working with the freshman team shortly after graduation, according to a 2011 Hilliard Davidson rivalry recap that placed him on the Coffman freshman staff alongside fellow 2009 graduates. He spent his first 10 years with the program before departing to coach middle school football for the past six seasons.
The Coffman Athletics roster page lists Friedman alongside fellow freshman coaches Mike Nemeth, Lucas Cooper, Jack Dorenkott and John Garrity. The varsity staff includes defensive coordinator Nathan Snedeker, offensive line coach Clint Kitchen and wide receivers coach DeLano Madison, among others.
As a senior in 2008-09, Friedman stood 6-foot, 245 pounds and helped the Rocks to a 9-4 record, according to his MaxPreps profile. Coffman is an 18-time league champion with three OHSAA Division I Final Four appearances.
Dublin Coffman Football described the hire as a homecoming, noting Friedman spent the first 10 years of his 16-year coaching career with the program before leaving for middle school.
The Rocks open Aug. 21 at Bishop Hartley, travel to Big Walnut on Aug. 28 and host Dublin Jerome for the home opener Sept. 4. Ohio Capital Conference-Central play begins Sept. 25 at Olentangy Liberty.
