ODOT is widening a ramp used daily by Dublin-area commuters from I-270 eastbound onto I-71 northbound, part of a $41.4 million interchange overhaul already under construction.

The Ohio Department of Transportation's Columbus district confirmed the work on Wednesday, Sept. 23, on X, responding to a commuter's complaint about rush-hour gridlock. The agency said the widening to two lanes will move more traffic through the interchange and reduce congestion.

The project, listed on ODOT's website as Project ID 105435, covers the full I-270/I-71 interchange on the north side of Columbus. Construction began in summer 2025 and is expected to finish by fall 2027. The work includes bridge preservation and roadway safety improvements.

ODOT officials described the area as one that "often experiences crashes and frequent backups," according to a 10TV report in May 2025. Three major interchanges sit in close proximity there: state Route 315, U.S. 23 and I-71.

ODOT spokesperson Matt McGuire told 10TV at the time that the project "will do a lot to cut down on the congestion in that area."

The social media exchange began when Michael Gonidakis posted on X about the evening commute, calling the stretch of I-270 between Route 315 and I-71 during rush hour "PURE HELL." ODOT replied with details about the active project.

George Reed of Powell replied on X on Sept. 24 that the bigger issue is drivers from Route 315 crossing paths with I-270 eastbound traffic trying to reach I-71. He called for a flyover or tunnel to separate the conflicting movements.
