Dublin City Schools will mail redistricting assignment confirmation letters to affected high school families the week of Nov. 2, giving them until Nov. 30 to report any errors.

Superintendent Jen Schwanke shared the update at the Board of Education's Monday, Oct. 26 meeting. Students already chose whether to stay at their current high school or move to the school they were redistricted to. The letters confirm those assignments so the district can build accurate rosters before course scheduling for the 2027-2028 school year.

The new boundaries, unveiled at the June 29 board meeting, take effect in the 2027–2028 school year.

English Learner proficiency climbing

The board also heard a presentation from Pete Kurty, the district's English Learner director, on the growth of Dublin's multilingual student population.

Multilingual students now make up 13% of the district's enrollment. Dublin City Schools ranks third in Ohio for total English Learner (EL) student enrollment, according to the district's meeting recap. The student body includes Japanese families on temporary work assignments, former Somali refugees and others.

On the 2026 Ohio English Language Proficiency Assessment (OELPA), 17% of EL students achieved full English proficiency. The meeting recap did not provide the previous years’ rates.

The district uses a multi-tiered support system that includes foundational literacy instruction, bilingual aides and co-teaching models. Kurty's department plans to review curriculum materials, expand professional development and broaden support across general education classrooms.

77 students earn national academic honors

The board recognized 77 students for national academic achievements: 12 received the College Board's First-Generation Recognition Award, which honors high-achieving students whose parents have not completed a four-year degree. Twenty-nine seniors were named 2027 National Merit Semifinalists, and 36 earned National Merit Commended Scholar status.

The 29 semifinalists now compete for nearly 6,700 National Merit Scholarships worth about $24 million nationally. About 95% of semifinalists are expected to reach finalist standing, with scholarship winners announced between April and July 2027.

Bailey Elementary earns Purple Star

Schwanke commended Bailey Elementary for earning Ohio's Purple Star School designation, which recognizes schools committed to supporting military-connected students and families. The state award requires schools to appoint a military family liaison, complete professional development and maintain a webpage with military-family resources. The designation is valid for three years.

The district's meeting recap did not list which board members attended or detail any formal votes taken Oct. 26.
