Dublin City Schools will replace the roof at Wyandot Elementary School in 2027 after the school board voted unanimously to approve the project Monday, Oct. 12.

Board members Christopher Valentine, Amy Messick, Elizabeth McClain and Tiffany deSilva all voted in favor of the resolution, according to meeting minutes generated Tuesday, Oct. 13. McClain moved the motion, and deSilva seconded it.

The roof replacement was bundled with a separate item approving Payment-In-Lieu of Transportation for the 2026-2027 school year. That program allows districts to offer families payment when transporting an eligible student is deemed impractical

Statewide, about 22,000 students were determined to be impractical to transport last year, Columbus Underground reported in September. "If Ohio did not have the Payment in Lieu of Transportation option available to districts, I believe the statewide driver shortage and its operational impact would be considerably more visible," Melody Coniglio, West Geauga Local School District’s transportation director and president-elect of the National Association for Pupil Transportation, told Columbus Underground.

The board minutes did not include a dollar figure for the Wyandot roof project or specify how many Dublin families will receive transportation payments.

The same meeting included a presentation on Tolles Career & Technical Center, the Plain City campus that serves Dublin high school students alongside six other partner districts. Tolles received a $320,000 state grant to build a new manufacturing career track for the 2027-28 school year, Dublin Ohio Daily reported in July.

The school is also wrapping up a $30 million campus expansion adding nearly 50,000 square feet of lab and classroom space, expected to finish in December. Tolles said in July that enrollment was projected to reach about 1,500 students this fall, the largest class in the school's history.

As we reported Wednesday, Oct. 14, the same meeting also saw the board vote to join a social media lawsuit and discuss an ongoing bus driver shortage.

The board approved personnel actions for certified and classified staff and accepted donations, all by unanimous vote. The meeting adjourned at 7:01 p.m.
